A note from ACA Executive Director, Vivian Cox
Another great Conference is behind us and the 2019 Theme “Problem Solving”
Highlights of the conference included a kick off with a bus tour of three nearby camps: Camp Valaqua, URSA Retreat Centre and Rivers Edge Camp & Conference Centre. It also included a stop at FallenTimber Meadery which was a treat! The bus was packed, and the tour was enlightening to those that attended.
Then that evening the conference began with a presentation from our keynote speaker, Kim Scherger, the Executive Director of the Manitoba Camping Association. Kim did a truly amazing job of sharing her own personal experiences, of how she has dealt with solving problems when challenges have arose while running a Camp in Manitoba. The evening kicked off with Camps doing their own introductions, and sharing with the group something fantastic about their camp, and the challenges that they face as well.
Tuesday was a packed day of various speakers, and information sessions. The noon hour lunch was a great time to meet our vendors at the Trade Show as well. Saturday evening, we hosted the annual awards, and gave recognition to some amazing people who truly contribute to the success of the industry. As well it was a great time to socialize through some interesting games of trivia, and of course snacks, which included an amazing mashed potato bar.
Wednesday, was the final presentation on “Accreditation”, which provided great insight into what to expect of your Accreditation visit. We hosted the AGM as well, and actually had two vacancies on the Board, and therefore we hosted an election. It was exciting times to see people volunteer to become a Board Member, because they truly have a passion to improve the Camping industry.
Camp Kindle did an amazing job of hosting again this year. Hats off to Leighana Shockey, and her team, for making our stay comfortable and fun. For those that attended, the feedback was very positive, and suggestions will be taken into consideration for planning next year's conference.
Oh by the way, if your Camp is interested in hosting next year's conference, please check out our website for our Request for Proposal. Submissions are due by May 15, 2019.
Big thank you to those members that attended, our Sponsors, our Vendors, and the Conference committee, we look forward to seeing many new, and returning faces at the 2020 Conference.
